Important Upcoming Events
Parents, we have been completing some alterations on the ties that needed to be shortened. If your son’s tie needs to be shortened, please bring it in, or have your son bring it in to tonight’s or next Tuesday’s rehearsal. We need to have the alterations done before the ABC Concert on March 4th.
I am currently in correspondence with Hattiesburg school principals as I attempt to set the dates of our week-end Spring Tour. We will be giving mini-Concerts at 4 to 5 Hattiesburg Schools on a Friday, as well as performing Concerts at retirement homes on Saturday and a local church on Sunday. Exact dates TBA, but, tentatively on an April week-end.
Parents, thanks for your patience, as I am in the process of learning a new and eventually more efficient process for creating the boys study Cds. I am working on my mac laptop with the recording program “audacity”, but there are some technical things that I am still not skilled with, yet. It is slow for me (I am more of a right brain type!), but I am getting there. In the meantime, please make sure that your sons are studying their paper copies of the repertoire selections.
The Director of the FL Festival has contacted me to let me know that many Boychoirs are finding it challenging to afford the expenses of the Festival. So, he is in the process of restructuring the Festival, and by making it shorter than a full week, reducing the total cost. He will be contacting me again as soon as the changes are complete and dates set.
The AmericanBoychoir/Mississippi Boychoir Collaboration Concert date is set for Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m, in the Covenant Church Sanctuary (the church where we rehearse each week). HOW EXCITING!
The American Boychoir Staff will be staying in a hotel. We will need some of our Jackson parents to house pairs(or from 4 to 6 boys) of the 30 American Boychoir members overnight (Sunday night after the Concert) and to provide breakfast for them the following morning (Sunday).
We do have some parents who at the Parent Meeting at Wesley Pines volunteered to house boys, but we are still in need of volunteer Hosts. Please let me know if you would like to be considered as an overnight host. Hosts cannot be single and the boys may not share a bed.
Covenant Church has graciously offered us their
space for serving both lunch and dinner on the day of the Concert, and some of our MS Boychoir Board members and parents are assisting with food donations, set up and and cleanup. What a great organization we have!
The only way to achieve Excellence is study,study,study/practice, practice, practice!!! Just a reminder that “boys will be boys”, and we need your support in making sure that they put in the required memorization/study time on our Concert Selections. Please make sure your son is still practicing --- 4 to 6 times per week, at least 30 minutes for each practice session.
Also, we continue to need your help in reminding your sons that they are to behave as young gentlemen at all times during Boychoir events.
Parents, if your son has to miss a rehearsal or Performance, you are required to notify Mr. Thompson, the Director, MS Womack, the Assistant Director, or MS Jacobs, the manager, ahead of time. It is not O.K. to just not show up. The contract you signed for your son was a commitment to be regular in attendance to rehearsals, performances and functions of the Mississippi Boychoir.
New Assignments
Training Choir:
ALL of the lyrics and soprano melody to “Da Hai”, “Heavenly Aeroplane” “This Little Light of Mine” and “Hush Somebody’s Callin” My Name” should now be memorized, if you want to sing them with the Concert Choir.
For next week, try to have the first two pages of “Irish Blessing ” memorized.
Continue working on the memorization of all new pieces. Remember, you may sing as many pieces with the Concert Choir as you wish, as long as you have them completely and correctly memorized. Review and IMPROVE all pieces from 1st Semester, including the Training Choir piece, “Lord, We Come to Thee”.
