Important Upcoming Events
Our Concert for the MS Chinese Association’s New Year’s Celebration is this coming Saturday, Jan. 28!
Since red is such an important color in Chinese culture, especially the Chinese New Year’s Celebration, the attire for this Saturday’s Concert will be the red polo with all other attire in black.
The AmericanBoychoir/Mississippi Boychoir Collaboration Concert date is set for Sunday, March 4 at 4p.m, in the Covenant Church Sanctuary (the church where we rehearse each week).
There are 30 boys in the American Boychoir Touring Choir.
Here is how our collaboration will work:
The Mississippi Boychoir will open the concert with about 10 minutes of music. The American Boychoir will take the stage after we have completed our selections. The MS Boychoir will join the ABC again, towards the end of the concert on the joint pieces, “Bist du bei mir” by J.S. Bach and “This Little Light of Mine” arr. By Ken Berg. Then, ABS will close the concert. HOW EXCITING!
We will need some of our Jackson parents to house pairs of the 30 American Boychoir members overnight (Sunday night after the Concert) and to prepare a meal for them before the 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon performance (and their 6 staff members --- can someone help out with the staff’s meal???). We do have some parents who at the Parent Meeting volunteered to house boys. Please let me know if you would like to be considered as an overnight host.
Parents, we have now begun memorizing brand new selections for 2nd Semester performances and our End of Year Concert. Are your sons practicing their assignments?!?!? The only way to achieve Excellence is study, study, study/practice, practice, practice!!! Just a reminder that “boys will be boys”, and we need your support in making sure that they put in the required memorization/study time on our Concert Selections. Please make sure your son is practicing --- 4 to 6 times per week, at least 30 minutes for each practice session.
Also, we continue to need your help in reminding your sons that they are to behave as young gentlemen at all times during Boychoir events.
Parents, if your son has to miss a rehearsal or Performance, you are required to notify Mr. Thompson, the Director, MS Womack, the Assistant Director, or MS Jacobs, the manager, ahead of time. It is not O.K. to just not show up. The contract you signed for your son was a commitment to be regular in attendance to rehearsals, performances and functions of the Mississippi Boychoir.
New Assignments
Training Choir:
ALL of the lyrics and soprano melody to “Da Hai” and “Heavenly Aeroplane” should now be memorized.
For next week, have the lyrics (words) and soprano melody to “This Little Light of Mine” memorized from page 3, to the bottom of page 5 (that is measure 6 through measure 42). Continue working on the memorization of all new pieces. Remember, you may sing as many pieces with the Concert Choir as you wish, as long as you have them completely and correctly memorized. Review and IMPROVE all pieces from 1st Semester, including the Training Choir piece,
“Lord, We Come to Thee”.
During next week’s rehearsal, you will be called up in small groups in front of the choir, so that we may assess who has been memorizing their assignments.
